There comes a time when you need to speak up – to take up for others who needs your support.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m not suggesting that we go around looking to get all up in everyone’s business. Yet, it’s entirely appropriate to speak up when someone is being wronged or taken advantage of.
An unusual experience yesterday reminded me just how important it is to look out for others…
You’re going through the most challenging situation you’ve faced in your career. Mistakes surround you. Morale is low. Revenue is missing projections. Your team, your organization is depending on you. What do you do?
It’s painful. Sometimes it’s not fair – it’s not your fault. The team has not been resourced properly. Certain team members aren’t pulling their weight. You have to do something!
Whatever you do, make sure you don’t make these 3 mistakes:
You’ve heard it a hundred times – if you’re not growing, you’re dying. And if this statement ever was true, it is simply no longer reality. Life IS about growth, but it’s not ALL about growth.

I’m passionate about growth. I’ve written much about planning, vision, and growth. For much of my life, anything that isn’t growing I considered failure…until few weeks ago.
Conflict is the byproduct of irresponsibility. And I don’t have to tell you that you’ll never reach your full potential if you don’t take full responsibility for your actions.
In every life situation involving people – family, friends or co-workers – there is potential for conflict. So learning to successfully handle conflict should be a priority, especially for those who desire to lead teams and organizations.
And the only way to resolve conflict is to accept responsibility.
Think about it – what significant problem are you facing today?
I wish I had seen it coming. If only I had noticed his insecurity, his manipulative nature, and the gaps in his integrity much earlier, I would’ve been better prepared to deal with the fallout – when he misused his position, took advantage of the organization, sold the team out, and abused the trust that was placed in him.
If you have found yourself in this unfortunate situation, most likely you were blindsided by it, too. Rarely does anyone see it coming.
