An Invitation to Write for My Blog

I am often asked to consider posting an article from someone else on my blog. So to help you be most successful with your guest post, here are a few simple notes about guest posting on my blog…

Content

Your post must be directly related to one of four topics:

  1. Personal Growth
  2. Leader Growth
  3. Team Growth
  4. Organizational Growth

Guest posts may not be an advertisement for a product.

Guidelines

  1. Your post must be original and not previously published either on the Web or in print.
  2. You agree not to publish it anywhere else, including your own blog or Web site. I do, however, recommend that you post a brief “tease” or summary on your site that links to the post. You may wish to say “today I am guest posting for Michael Nichols”, provide a link to the post include some “bonus” content that relates to the post. For a sample of how to do this, see this mini-post by Dwayne Morris.
  3. You may provide up to three byline links: one for your blog or Web site, one for your bio or About page, and one for your Twitter username.
  4. Your post should be at least 500 words long and no more than 800 words.
  5. I encourage you to read the following articles – each one contains very helpful tips to maximize your post:
    • Anatomy of an Effective Blog Post by Michael Hyatt

Copy Editing

  1. I may copy edit the post. If I make substantive changes (which is unlikely), I will email the post back to you for your approval before posting. And I will provide a link to your blog, Twitter, and about page, if you wish.
  2. I may provide a short introduction or conclusion to your post to provide context or the rationale to explain why I think the post is important. I will make set my comments off from your post stylistically, so my readers are clear that these words are mine and not yours.
  3. For the best engagement and exposure, I recommend that you include a giveaway of some type for readers who comment on the post and share it on social media.
  4. You should be able to engage with my readers in the comments about your post as my readers have come to expect this – I respond to every comment and I’ll be interacting along with you.

Disclaimer

I understand the enormous amount of work that it takes to write a blog post. However, the only guest posts I will publish are those that add value to my readers. When your guest post is selected, I will contact you with a scheduled publication date.

Submissions

If your post meets the above guidelines, email me a draft of your post.

  • Please allow 2–3 weeks for me to respond.
  • Please include a one or two sentences that detail what you do. Along with your blog address and your Twitter and/or Facebook address.
  • Please include the post in the body of the e-mail. Do not include it as an attachment. Also, please do not include HTML coding.

I’m looking forward to reading your post!
