You’ve probably already heard about all kinds of stuff that people are selling to help you improve in this year. But have you heard about the big giveaway I have going on?
Yep, when most people are selling stuff, I decided to do it a little different – I’m giving stuff away instead. Think of it as a gift – from me to you. I’ll tell you how to get it in just a moment.
Most people wait for life to happen to them. They plod along – reacting to the circumstances along their path in their life and work. Sadly, many end up never accomplishing important life or career goals for one simple reason – they never paused long enough to give some thought to where they were headed and how they were going to get there.
About 15 years ago, that was my story. I wanted my life to matter but couldn’t figure out how to make it happen. And few people understood my passion and fewer challenged me to pursue it with abandon.
Let me tell you – that’s not the life you were meant to live. And it’s not how your career is supposed to go.
When you purposefully set aside time for reflection and planning you are far more likely to accomplish your goals.
Then end of the year and the start of a new year offer great opportunities to evaluate how you’re doing with your goals. You’re able to ask questions like:
- What goals did I set this year?
- How did I do? Did I complete them?
- If not, what can I do to complete them in the next 90 days?
- Then, what are the next steps?
- Do I have clarity about where I’m headed?
- What is keeping me from making progress?
- What can I do today to move forward?

For years I struggled to make progress and get momentum. Then I read about Michael Hyatt’s experience with an Annual Time Block he developed. And few months later, my executive coach encouraged me to develop my own annual plan. So I did.
Here’s what I did and how I use it…
1. Annual Review
That year I spent a day or so between Christmas and New Year’s planning the next year. This one exercise brought about such dramatic improvements in my life and work that I’ve done this every year since.
I customized Michael’s template to schedule holidays, major events, work travel, vacations, speaking engagements, meetings, etc. for the coming year.
Knowing the big events prior to the start of the year helps block out these top priorities before they fall prey to the priorities of other things and other people.
It’s true – If you don’t proactively plan your life, someone else will gladly do it for you.
And now, you can download my guide and template free. You’ll also get more detailed information about how I conduct my annual review and how it has dramatically improved my ability to accomplish my life and work goals.

2. Quarterly Review
For me, an annual review wasn’t enough. I found that – if I was going to make significant progress – I needed to get away periodically throughout the year to assess my progress and hit the reset button.
So every quarter, I schedule a couple of days away to review my progress over the past few months and set personal and work goals for the next 90 days.
The schedule for my quarterly review is the same every time – I developed a template agenda to help me make the best use of the time.
This week, you can download my quarterly review template free. You’ll also get more detailed information about how I conduct my quarterly review and how it can dramatically improve your ability to accomplish your goals.

3. Weekly Review
Then – to really keep me on track – I spend an hour or so conducting a weekly review. I do this every Sunday.
I look back on the week I just completed and look forward in my calendar and at upcoming projects. These weekly check-ups are like looking at a road map to make sure that I haven’t taken a wrong turn or strayed off course.
And today you can get a free copy of my Weekly Review Template to customize for your life and work.
